Mother's Day Can Be Every Day

You pride yourself on being a great father. Sure, your career takes up too much time each week, but you're as diligent as time allows about sharing child-rearing responsibilies with your wife. You are definitely not your father, who left all the "household chores" to your mother. You're a twenty-first-century renaissance man.

You help get the kids ready for school in the morning, at least twice a week, and you help put them to bed at night, when you're not working on the car or watching football. You even make dinner, sometimes. OK, so it's grilled cheese sandwiches and potato chips, but it's almost nutritious. If you squint…

Your wife is one lucky woman, right? You almost never forget your anniversary or her birthday. Last Valentine's Day snuck up on you, causing a late-night run to the drug store, but that card you bought was a winner. And you worked so hard buying Mother's Day gifts with your little kids that you forgot to buy one from you. But you did bring her coffee in bed that morning-that made her day.

Now it's autumn and you've got a break in the action-Thanksgiving's about the grandparents, Christmas is about the kids-and you can pretty much relax until next Valentine's Day. Whew!

Not so fast, Dad. One of the major problems faced by parents of small children is the lack of attention paid to their own relationships. Children demand so much time and effort that couples tend to ignore each others' needs.

Look around-as enlightened as you are, does your wife still get stuck with the "grunt" work of the household? How often do you do the laundry, including the folding and ironing? How often do you pack your kids' lunches, buy their clothes, help them with their homework, and leave work to take them to the doctor or dentist?

Do you really believe that a few special days a year are enough recognition for everything your wife does to take care of your family? Are they enough thanks? Of course not. No matter how much she wanted the job, she never realized how incredibly difficult being a mother would turn out to be.

Don't wait for Valentine's Day or Mother's Day-beyond telling her every day how much you love her, there are a million little things you can do to let her know how much she is appreciated.

The next time you pass a florist, drop in and send your wife a bouquet. Leave an "I Love You" card in an unexpected place for her.

Surprise her, some Saturday night-arrange a sitter for the kids, yourself, and take her to dinner. Even better, get the sitter for a weekend afternoon, and take your wife on a surprise picnic. Or be the sitter, yourself, and arrange a surprise day at a spa for her, where she'll be pampered in ways you can't duplicate.

For no reason at all, let her stay in bed, some weekend morning, while you and the kids fix and serve her breakfast.

You may be a great father, but you shouldn't forget that, first, you were a husband. Let your wife know that she's still that beautiful girl you married, and that Mother's Day and Valentine's Day ought to be every day.

Make Time To Love Your Partner After Baby Has Arrived

Life has changed Big Time - baby has arrived. You feel proud, full of happiness but tired out and find it very difficult to make time for quality time with your partner. This is the danger time when relationships can start to come apart. It is essential that you reaffirm your love for your partner as the new arrival can easily take up most of your time. You can generally make it so that you are both involved with the same task, for example, the bedtime story. That way, you spend time together as well as with your baby. Once baby is asleep, it can be difficult for you to make the effort to spend time with your partner - do it! Even if it is just for a few minutes.

In order to make more quality time for each other, at some point you will need to organise a babysitter so that you can go out - to the restaurant, cinema, theatre, or whatever. But the big problem then is to decide who to trust to do the job. You may be lucky enough to live near family, they are often more than willing to look after your baby, especially if they have had a family themselves.

But if that is not the case you will have to find a professional babysitter. That can be very time consuming and they may not always be available. When choosing a babysitter, always check their credentials very carefully. Take up references and talk with people who use their services. Ask these people about punctuality, reliability, has their child ever seemed upset about the sitter and so on. Interview the potential sitter, find out about their training and double check with the trainers that they have really been and how they fared. Ask the sitter what they would do in cases of emergency to establish how they would react. If there is an agency in your region, most of that will have been done, but it is still worth interviewing the sitter before the first visit to find out their character for yourself.

A good alternative to this is to join or set up a babysitting circle in your neighbourhood. You will undoubtedly get to know many of the other families with babies and toddlers who live close to you. They will all be in the same situation and want free time themselves, sometimes at short notice - many of them will be willing to babysit for you in return for the same favor from yourself. But a circle like this needs commitment - beware of the ones who come up with excuses or never seem to be available to take their turn. Usually though, the circle will work perfectly and not only will you have baby time, you have time to love your partner as well, keeping your relationship strong.

Finally, do not just assume that because you have a baby you can be a babysitter, there are many training courses available such as the Superbabysitting DVD that you can buy. These can also help to improve your parenting skills. A great idea is for your babysitting circle to club together and buy one between you.

Packing Your Diaper Bag

While sometimes it feels like your diaper bag outweighs your baby, it is essential to pack necessary items for your outgoing trip. Leaving the house with the right items will help you accomplish the things you need to do away from the house with minimal difficulty.

Depending on the length of time you will be away from home determines how much you will need to pack. Having a roomy, expandable bag is the first step. Packing it in an organized manner is the next step. Being able to find an item in the bag with one hand can make a diaper change go much more smoothly. I've listed some items to pack in your diaper bag.

Obviously, depending on the age of your child, this list will decrease:

Quick trip to the store with your baby:

  • 2 diapers
  • Small packet of baby wipes
  • Changing pad
  • Pacifier, if used
  • Packet of crackers or cookie
  • Bottle, formula
  • Bib
  • Small toy that will clip onto shopping cart.

Day trip or day with sitter, add:

  • Information card
  • More diapers
  • Second small packet of baby wipes
  • Changing pad
  • Baby food, spoon
  • Bottles, formula
  • Bibs
  • Small hand-held toys
  • Blanket to nap on.
  • Spare change of clothing
  • Spare pacifier, if used
  • Plastic zipper bags for transporting dirty items home.

Week with sitter:
Pack this into a bag that stays with the sitter all week:

  • Diapers
  • Large packet of baby wipes
  • Diaper cream for rashes
  • Spare changes of clothing
  • Baby food, spoons, bibs
  • Bottles, formula
  • Toys
  • Blankets

Additional items at parent's discretion:

  • Acetaminophen
  • Gas Drops
  • Teething rings
  • Teething liquid

When your baby has a regular sitter for the week, it is much easier to only transport soiled items home each day. It is also helpful to have your sitter write down questions or events that occur during the day (such as feeding and nap times) and collect the slip with your baby. Often times, pick up time can be hurried or distracted and things may be forgotten. This way Mom or Dad have time to answer questions, check out small injuries that may have occurred, and celebrate the new things that have happened that day.

Your "Information Card" should have the following items listed:

  • Emergency phone numbers, preferred hospital
  • Work, home and cell phone numbers
  • Allergies
  • Medications given and dosages

Optional:

  • Secondary phone numbers (grandparents, or friends)
  • Insurance information
  • Blood type

Keep your Information Card in a sandwich-size plastic bag so it remains legible. Anytime the information changes, update your card. This card is invaluable during emergencies.

Forethought when planning a trip away from home, no matter how long it will be, can make for an easier day for you and your baby. It also gives peace of mind for you and your sitter when leaving your child for the day. With your sitter prepared for any occasion, your workday will have less phone calls, less worry, and more productivity.

Tips on Finding a Good Baby Sitter

Having trouble finding a good baby sitter? If you are a working mom and is very much tied up with the demands of your current job, you might need the help and the power of a good older baby sitter. By simply posting an ad online or asking your friends to help you find one could immediately provide you with several different applicants who might want to take on the job and responsibility for very different reasons and purposes.

But in order for you to know that you've got the best there is when it comes to babysitting your child, here are some tips on what you can actually do:

1) One of the first things you might need to consider is ask help from your trusted friends and other family members like your brothers and sisters who have their own baby sitters. They can surely help you find an older baby sitter who can take care of your child. By asking help from your family members and trusted friends, you can be assured that they will have the compassion for your child and would make sure that your child is taken cared for well.

2) You might also want to spend some time and free your schedule for a day (much better on weekends) and invite prospective baby sitters over to your home. Talk to them and discuss with them their job descriptions and ask them to tell you something about themselves; their family background, educational background, interests, hobbies, current status and the like. By directly conversing with your prospective baby sitter, you can have an idea of what type of person they actually are.

3) Another thing you can do is have your child and the baby sitter meet personally and introduce them to each other. Observe this meeting very carefully and see how well or how negative your child's response is to the baby sitter. A child relies on first impressions and chances are they can never go wrong with it.

4) You might also want to online babysitter services that match babysitters to parents who need their services. You can view babysitter profiles, comments from parents, and even run background checks on potential sitters.

5) Once you have gathered a list of prospective baby sitters, you should definitely take time and consider all your options on hand. It is also very important that you consider the age of the baby sitter you will hire, as well as her experiences, maturity level and sense of responsibility.

The only way for you to know that you've got a good older baby sitter who is prepared to take on the challenges of babysitting is if you actually take the time and do on the spot observations. Do surprise visits to your home and see for yourself how your baby sitter interacts with your child and how your child responds to her.

Review - House Sitters

If you have a vacation planned and would like to use a house sitter service. This house
sitter review is for you to become familiar with what to expect. Most people are not
aware of the services offered by house sitters and this will educate you on what to
expect.

House sitters are becoming more popular these days with people that are away from their
home for an extended period of time. If work or vacations will cause you to leave your
home then a housesitter may be an option you should consider.

The security concerns these days are on everyone's mind. Even an alarm system is not
enough any more. A house sitter can solve many issues that you face when planning your
stay away from home.

Some house sitting services will send someone to your home once or twice a day. While
there, this person will get the mail, water the plants, open or close the curtains, and
make it appear that you are home. These services will even water and feed your pets and
walk them for you.

While this is really a great service and help for you, this housesitter review would
recommend a little more. The reason is because the services that only visit your home
once or twice a day still leave your home empty for up to 23 hours a day. That would
still leave a doubt in your mind concerning the safety of your home.

The best house sitter services will provide you with someone to live in your home while
you are gone. Now before you go off the deep end think about this. The best service
providers do there homework. They thoroughly screen those that will be in your home. You
could also ask to see the background check of the person that will be house sitting for
you.

The best thing about having a house sitter live in your home is someone will be there
more than once or twice a day. The pets can be taken care of better. Your home will
actually be lived in, not just made to look like it. Criminals can tell the difference.

It is like having a person rent your home while you are away. Except you will pay them
instead of you getting paid. The house sitter can notify you of any problems that need
your attention. The best services will also help you to pick the right person for the job
so you won't be on your own.

If you want to do a house sitter review of your own, there are plenty of websites you can
visit. When the service of a house sitter is something that is needed then you will be
more educated on where to look.

Finding a Trustworthy Babysitter

Finding a trustworthy babysitter seems like it used to be easier than it is for parents today. Usually there was someone around who could help watch your kids.

Now, with fewer stay-at-home moms and teenagers involved in so many things that they no longer babysit, it is getting harder and harder for parents to find quality childcare.

Some parents are turning to online babysitter services for help. These services are similar to dating services because they aim to find a good match between parents and potential sitters in the same way someone might choose to find a compatible date.

You can search your local area for sitters, read about their experience, babysitting philosophies, hobbies and even religious affiliations. Some sites offer background checks so you can be sure that the person who you choose for a babysitter is not a poor choice.

Parents who have used this sitter before can leave reviews that you can read to give you more comfort.

Once you find a sitter that you like online, you may call and interview them, introduce them to the kids and finally relax and know you have found a great sitter.

What does it cost? In most cases, you can get a year membership for less than $100 with no additional costs for each sitter you contact, interview or use. In fact, you can use the service to find daycare for while you are at work and a few sitters to use when you need a night out. What could be better?
